As a Registered Social Worker, Kareen has spent over 38 years helping children, youth and families overcome life's challenges. She's guided in this work by a deep level of caring, compassion and belief in a person's ability to heal, grow and become their best self possible. Kareen has worked extensively to develop therapeutic programs for children and youth affected by a broad range of issues including domestic violence, grief and loss, family transition and separation, resettlement, and school related challenges such as bullying, social isolation and acting out behaviours. Bilingual and fluent in Spanish, she has also provided specialized counselling for spanish speaking children and newcomber and refugee families , and worked with a team of counselors to develop the RSVP Program, an award winning and widely utilized Social Emotional Learning program for students. Kareen completed her Bachelor and Master of Social Work Degrees at UBC and since then has dedicated her career to advancing her knowledge, skills and experience in play therapy and therapeutic practices that help children, youth and families reach their fullest potential. Kareen's passion for helping children, youth and families to thrive, despite roadblocks they encounter in their lives, is what lead her to create Seedlings Child and Youth Counselling and Consulting, located in Vancouver BC.

“The activities that are the easiest, cheapest, and most fun to do – such as singing, playing games, reading, storytelling, and just talking and listening – are also the best for child development.”
– Jerome Singer (professor, Yale University)
