Sheila Johal
Biographical Info
Sheila has worked in the school system for 25 years where she began her career as an elementary school teacher (K-7). Since completing her Masters in Counselling Psychology from Simon Fraser University, she has worked as a school counsellor for the past 15 years. Her continued employment in schools enhances her ability to connect with children and families as she has a clear understanding of the structure and routines. The foundation of Sheila's work is her belief in developing a respectful, trusting and safe relationship, and where all those involved play an important and collaborative role. Sheila has trained with Dr. Madeleine De Little and is a certified NSST therapist. She is also working towards becoming a Certified Synergetic Play Therapist. Sheila's work is informed by Gestalt, Neuroscience and Attachment theory. Through this lens, she works with challenges such as trauma, anxiety, depression, and grief. Children and teens work with various modalities including art, sand, play and mindfulness. Through these modalities, the client develops a sense of security where they know that they can be their authentic self while working with Sheila.

“The activities that are the easiest, cheapest, and most fun to do – such as singing, playing games, reading, storytelling, and just talking and listening – are also the best for child development.”
– Jerome Singer (professor, Yale University)
