About the Play Café

This Play Café will present guidelines to help therapists choose therapeutic toys wisely. Factors such as ability to facilitate a range of emotional expression, sensory qualities, toys that can be flexible and used in different ways, toys like bridges and fences, trees, water, etc for creating a setting and boundary setting. Practical considerations such as  durability, frustration level, ability to clean and expense will also be addressed, as well as sources of toys. There will be an opportunity to view and purchase some of the materials discussed.

About the presenters:

Donna Grocott is the owner of BC Playthings, a family owned and operated toy store. Through her vision and passion, BC Playthings is a toy store that specializes in toys / tools for all abilities and needs. Through collaboration with children, parents, EA’s, Teachers, Play Therapists, Paediatricians, Psychologists, and various specialists, we source and carry many different toys/ tools for children who need them. Using play, children and adults alike find passages in their complicated world, moments of clarity, and moments of growth and BC Playthings is honoured to offer the toys and tools to do so.

“The activities that are the easiest, cheapest, and most fun to do – such as singing, playing games, reading, storytelling, and just talking and listening – are also the best for child development.”
