This Play Café introduces participants to a potpourri of techniques. Creative writing, graphics, art, and guided imagery provide examples of how to integrate cognitive behavioural and psychodynamic techniques. Through lecture and experiential activities, directive and non-directive approaches are offered along with basic guidelines and encouragement for generating unique activities idiosyncratic to each child’s needs.

About the Speaker of the Day:

Dr. Bertoia is a Registered Psychologist, Certified Play Therapist and Supervisor who has been providing education and therapy to individuals, couples, and families for over 40 years and supervision to play therapists for 17 years. Judith has lectured and published internationally in the field of child therapy. She has generously offered to share strategies for expressive therapy and promoting psychospiritual healing that she has developed over the years.

“The activities that are the easiest, cheapest, and most fun to do – such as singing, playing games, reading, storytelling, and just talking and listening – are also the best for child development.”
– Jerome Singer (professor, Yale University)
