BC Play Therapy Association holds workshops throughout the year to help advance the education of Play Therapy Practitioners and related professions. These usually revolve around a specialized speaker teaching a subject of importance to the advancement of play therapy as a therapeutic practice.
ABOUT OUR PRESENTER
Dr. Evangeline Munns Ph D, C Psych, CPT-S is a certified clinical psychologist, who in the past, was the director of Blue Hills Play Therapy Services, which under her direction, became the largest training school in Theraplay in Canada. She is a registered trainer/supervisor with the Theraplay Institute in Chicago, the Association for Play Therapy in the U.S., and the Canadian Association for Child and Play Therapy (on the latter she serves on the Education Committee).
Dr. Munns is a popular presenter and has given numerous workshops on play therapy across Canada, United States and internationally. In recent years, much of her time has been spent in training and supervising therapists in Theraplay and /or non-directive play therapy and Filial including teaching as a guest lecturer at Western University in London, Ontario and Sir Wilfred Laurier in Kitchener, Ontario.
With over forty years of experience working with children and their families, she offers a rich knowledge in the children’s mental health field. She has served as a consultant to many agencies. Dr. Munns has written numerous articles and chapters on Theraplay and has edited two books entitled “Theraplay: Innovations in Attachment-Enhancing Play therapy” and “Applications of Family and Group Theraplay”.
Dr. Munns is a recipient of the Monica Herbert award from the Canadian Association for Child and Play Therapy (CACPT) for “an outstanding contribution to the field of play therapy in Canada”.
ABOUT THE WORKSHOP – 5.5 CEUs
This workshop will provide an overview of the basic tenants of Theraplay, including its theory, research, underlying principles and dimensions such as: Structure, Engagement, Nurture, and Challenge and its application to troubled children and their families. Using group Theraplay with multiple families, parent/child groups and peer groups will also be described using lecture, video and experiential activities.

The AGM will take place over the lunch hour. Lunch 12:00- 12:30, AGM 12:30 – 1:30. Lunch and snacks are provided for all.
WHO SHOULD ATTEND:
Play therapists, family therapists, psychologists, social workers, school counsellors, and other mental health professionals working with children, adolescents and families will benefit from this training. A basic understanding of play therapy would be be beneficial.
