Webinar 4. Supportive Spaces: Promoting Cultural Inclusivity in Play Therapy Supervision
Play therapy supervision should be a safe place for play therapists from all backgrounds. It is the responsibility of the Registered Play Therapist Supervisor to provide ethically sound play therapy supervision in a supportive environment that is respectful of all backgrounds and beliefs. This webinar will explore the importance of providing culturally inclusive play therapy supervision sessions, both in-person and virtually, that set the tone to mentor culturally competent play therapists.
Learning Objectives:
After participating in this workshop, participants may be equipped with the knowledge and tools to:
Discuss the core concepts of Relational-Cultural Play Therapy Supervision (RCT)
Identify self-assessment tools to use in play therapy supervision to evaluate areas of growth for cultural competence
Analyze play-based strategies for supervisees to evaluate their cultural identities in play therapy supervision

About the Presenter:
April Duncan, DSW, LCSW, RPT-S™ , earned her Bachelor of Arts and Science from the University of Missouri–Columbia (2006), her Master of Social Work from Saint Louis University (2012), and her Doctorate of Social Work from the University of Southern California (2021).
Dr. Duncan is a racial trauma expert and the founder of BMH Connect, an organization dedicated to advancing cultural inclusivity in play therapy. She serves as Chief Program Officer for a minority-focused nonprofit supporting child and adolescent mental health in Pasadena, California, and is an adjunct instructor in Tulane University’s online MSW program.
She is also the author of several play-based publications.

Play therapy credits are only awarded to mental health professionals. Play therapy credit may be awarded to graduate students enrolled in a graduate mental health program or individuals who hold a graduate mental health degree.

APT Approved Provider 95-019 – BCPTA is approved by the Association for Play Therapy to provide continuing education specific to play therapy.
CAPT Approved Provider 09-103 – BCPTA is approved by the Canadian Association for Play Therapy to provide foundation training and continuing education training specific to child and play therapy. This training cannot be used for Foundation Play Therapy Training towards Certification with CAPT as a Certified Play Therapist (CPT).
