We're sorry, but all tickets sales have ended because the event is expired.
Play Cafés offer a combination of theory, case presentations and discussions on a play therapy topic and the opportunity to network with others who are in the field of play therapy.

About the Play Café

Play therapists will often be referred children diagnosed with or suspected of having FASD who are also suffering from co-occurring trauma and mental health issues. In this workshop myths and misconceptions about FASD will be addressed. Though outcomes for individuals with FASD can be poor, research has indicated that play therapy and expressive arts can improve emotional regulation, relaxation skills , interpersonal communication, self-esteem and memory functioning for children, youth, adults and their families affected by FASD. In this presentation, I will give an overview of FASD, what is important for play therapists to know and how to work with these clients in the playroom.

Speaker of the Day: Natascha Lawrence, MA, RCC

Natascha is a therapist with over 10 years experience specializing in the mental health and addiction treatment of children, youth and adults affected by FASD. She is the Group Facilitator, Youth and Family Counsellor, at BC Children’s Hospital for inpatient psychiatry, works in Private Practice and as the Student and Family Specialist at James Cameron School, a school specializing in the education of students with learning disabilities. More importantly, Natascha is a caregiver to an amazing child diagnosed with FASD.

“The activities that are the easiest, cheapest, and most fun to do – such as singing, playing games, reading, storytelling, and just talking and listening – are also the best for child development.”
– Jerome Singer (professor, Yale University)
