BC Play Therapy Association holds workshops throughout the year to help advance the education of Play Therapy Practitioners and related professions. These usually revolve around a specialized speaker teaching a subject of importance to the advancement of play therapy as a therapeutic practice.

Day 1 February 6, 2021 9:30-10:30am
Following an elder opening, we will be introduced to the teachings and activities within the Decolonize First workbook, along with discussion.
Between Sessions:
Participants will work through the Decolonize First workbook.
Day 2 February 20, 2021 9:30-10:30am
We will bring together our learnings and unlearnings from our individual reflection and discuss ways to implement these teachings within the field of play therapy. Participants will receive a Digital Harvest document of the group’s goals and learnings.

About the Workbook:
The Decolonize First workbook is 16 pages of activities, lessons and unlearnings that address the need to prioritize decolonization within our personal journey. While the work is aimed at individual reflection, its impact has the potential to ripple out into our communities and workplaces.
About the facilitator: TA7TALÍYA MICHELLE NAHANEE
Ta7talíya is a creative director, decolonizing facilitator and Indigenous change maker from the Sḵwx̱ wú7mesh community Eslha7an. She works within the intersection of class, race, culture and creativity focusing on social change through communications and deep engagement. Ta7talíya’s collaborations have influenced opinions, changed behaviours and mobilized community action. She is also the designer of a life-size board game and workshop called Sínulhkay and Ladders which aims to answer the question “what now” in this age of truth & reconciliation. Her clients include the City of Vancouver, Squamish Nation, HCMA Architecture + Design, Simon Fraser University, Telus Storyhive and Vancouver Foundation. She believes in non-coercive education and making space for brave innovations.
