Designation Acronyms

Here is a list of the more commonly used acronyms of professional designations for those who work with children and families.

 

ATR = Registered Art Therapist through the Art Therapy Credentials Board Inc.

 

BCATR = British Columbia Art Therapist Registered through the British Columbia Art Therapy Association

 

BCRPT = BC Registered Play Therapist through the BC Play Therapy Association

 

BCRPT-S = BC Registered Play Therapy Supervisor through the BC Play Therapy Association

 

CCC = Canadian Certified Counsellor through the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association

 

CCC-S = Canadian Certified Counsellor Supervisor through the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association

 

CCLS = Certified Child Life Specialist through the Child Life Certification Commission which is part of the Association of Child Life Professionals

 

CPT = Certified Play Therapist through the Canadian Association for Play Therapy

 

CPT-S = Certified Play Therapist Supervisor through the Canadian Association for Play Therapy

 

CTTS = Certified Trauma Treatment Specialist through the Association of Traumatic Stress Specialists

 

DVATI = Diploma from Vancouver Art Therapy Institute

 

MA = Master of Arts

 

MACP = Master of Arts Counselling Psychology

 

MA-CYC = Master of Arts in Child and Youth Care

 

MA-MFT = Master of Arts in Marriage and Family Therapy

 

MC = Masters of Counselling

 

M.Ed. = Master of Education

 

MSW = Master of Social Work

 

PhD = Doctor of Philosophy

 

Psy.D = Doctor of Psychology

 

RCAT = Registered Canadian Art Therapist through the Canadian Art Therapy Association

 

RCC = Registered Clinical Counsellor through the BC Association of Clinical Counsellors

 

RCC-ACS = Registered Clinical Counsellor – Approved Clinical Supervisor through the BC Association of Clinical Counsellors

 

RCSW = Registered Clinical Social Worker

 

RMFT = Registered Marriage & Family Therapist through the Canadian Association for Marriage & Family Therapy

 

RMFT-S = Registered Marriage & Family Therapist Supervisor through the Canadian Association for Marriage & Family Therapy

 

RPT (USA) = Registered Play Therapist through the Association for Play Therapy

 

RPT-S (USA) = Registered Play Therapist Supervisor through the Association for Play Therapy

 

RSW = Registered Social Worker

 

RTC = Registered Therapeutic Counsellors through the Association of Cooperative Counselling Therapists of Canada
